Activism is described as “a policy of taking direct action to achieve a political or social goal” (Zeitz, 2008). ...Advocacy is often seen as working “within the system” whereas activism is seen as working “outside the system” to generate change (UBC, 2010).

The mission of the Long Island Transgender Advocacy Coalition (LITAC) is to engage in education, advocacy and outreach in order to achieve public understanding and support for the transgender community. LITAC will work with local, state and national organizations to bring about full equality under law for all transgender and gender-variant people.
We are a coalition of labor unions, community organizations, congregations and faith-based organizations, and students committed to protecting the rights of working people and supporting community struggles to build a more just society locally and globally. We are committed to creating living wage jobs, supporting organizing, and demanding corporate accountability in our communities.
The Suffolk Chapter of the New York Civil Liberties Union is dedicated to the protection of civil liberties as embodied in the Bill of Rights. Its mission is to protect the constitutional rights of the people it serves through advocacy and involvement in the legislative process and to educate the community about civil liberties issues.
